By restoring the Original Book of Mormon, converts from all over the world will become pioneers about truth and the importance of the US during the Millennium. Mormons from all over the world will become involved in restoring the truth found in the plain and simple words of prophets who dwelled between New York and Illinois for hundreds of years (200 BC – 412 AD), as promised by the Prophet Lehi (2 Nephi 3:24). This place has been blessed and preserved since the Stick of Joseph (Nephites) intermarried with the Stick of Judah (Mulekites). Both groups had independently arrived to this sacred land of the United States of America through inspired prophets of the Lord.
Now that the world realizes that Salt Lake City was like Bablyon of old by April 6, 2000, there will be an extensive research about how corrupt the LDS Church had become (just like Babylon of Old). Within a few years the LDS members will realize that the global Masonic reign over the Mormon Church has got to be removed, as promised in the above mentioned scripture by the first Prophet Lehi. There are too many secrets and illegal money-laundering with foreign currency with tithing funds. Salt Lake Tribune reporter Peggy Fletcher forgot to mention in the attached article that today Americans look at Mormonism as a “cult” because of their temple rituals, approving celestial polygamy within these evil buildings, with secret oaths and covenants to the “church” and not to God through blind obedient deeds and services to the headquarters.
Jesus removed the money-changers two times from the Lord’s Temple (right after his wedding to Mary Magdalene - John 2:13-16, and near the end of His ministry -Mark 11:15-17, Matthew 21:12-13). The same will to happen now in the Mormon Church because early convert Mormons were blessed with the Kirtland Temple, an open experience for everybody to witness and feel the joys with angels. Since the flight of the Freemasonry Mormons to the Rocky Mountains the USA general public has honored the greatness of this sacred Ohio edifice because a new convert and Wisconsin attorney James Strange personally preserved it from Freemason Brigham Young and others. Thousands of Mormons, including the Smith Family and three witnesses supported him because everybody had the right to use the authority of Jesus (Blacks and Women, included). When evil came within this group, the members wouldn’t tolerate it. Since then they have searched for the restoration to happen. An odd choice for a hymn, perhaps. But even stranger, the blessing was taking place in Great Britain.

Several decades later, odes to the United States never are sung in far-flung LDS branches, says the 33-year-old Head, who teaches religion and philosophy at a private boys school in England. Neither is "God Save the Queen."
On this celebration of America's founding, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is striving to reinforce its status as a global faith, scouring the continents seeking converts and shedding some of its U.S. cultural remnants.
More than half the church's nearly 14 million members, roughly a third of its 50,000 missionaries and most of its temples are outside U.S. borders. The faith's unique scripture, The Book of Mormon, has been translated into more than 100 languages, missionaries from abroad dominate the tour-guide roster at Salt Lake City's Temple Square, and many articles in its international magazine are produced by members from around the world. More and more of the faith's second and third tier of authorities hail from other countries.
Even the governing First Presidency includes a German, Dieter F. Uchtdorf.
Mormons observe a Friday Sabbath in Middle Eastern countries and experiment with shortened services in South America. Spanish soon may become the faith's most common language.
Still, it isn't easy to untangle America from Mormonism. It is, after all, embedded in the theology.
In The Book of Mormon, the Americas make up the promised land. Mormons consider the United States' founding, Constitution and form of government to be blessed by God. And its global headquarters is in the western United States. The Garden of Eden, Mormons believe, was in Missouri, and Jesus will return to reign in the "New Jerusalem" there.
"In my home ward, some members joke about it, saying that there's a printing error in the Doctrine and Covenants," says Head, an international editor of Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, "and that the New Jerusalem will, in fact, be built in England." Some foreign-born members occasionally wonder: How can I be a Mormon if I am not American?
"Take away the Americanness of Mormonism, and you find yourself with an unidentifiable religion," says Charles Carter, a lecturer at the University of Bordeaux in France. "The challenge, then, for Mormonism to become a real global religion depends on how it uses, or not, its Americanness."
Shortly after the church's birth in upstate New York in the 1830s, Mormon founder Joseph Smith sent missionaries to the north, west and across the ocean to Great Britain.
The incipient faith preached a "gathering to Zion," where members could live together and build a utopian society. That lasted until the 1920s, when LDS Church President Heber J. Grant urged members to build Zion societies where they lived.
Even as Mormonism began to sink roots in new nations, LDS leaders in Utah continued to celebrate the connection to this country.
"I rejoice this morning with all my heart that I am a member of the church - this American church that owes no allegiance to any foreign power or potentate, the only real American church worthy of the name. It is American through and through," said Charles W. Nibley, LDS presiding bishop, at the 1924 general conference.
"It is American in ideals, American in thought, American in every activity connected with it, American in its desire to bless and benefit the people. There is not any other church that can claim anything like that."
Beginning in the 1960s, the LDS Church started to shift its perspective. A "correlation program" put a major effort into making Mormonism seem "less American" by removing or diminishing in church publications typical U.S. items (such as those referring to the political system, affluent living style, dating patterns, sports, food and more) and by stressing the core message of the gospel and its principles as valid for all human beings, explains longtime member Wilfried Decoo, who alternates between teaching at the University of Antwerp in Belgium and Brigham Young University in Provo.
It eliminated the word "this" from the 10th Article of Faith, which read in part: "We believe that Zion will be built upon this (the American) continent." It also emphasizes the 12th Article, which encourages Mormons to give allegiance to "kings, presidents, rulers and magistrates" wherever they live.
In Africa, Asia and Latin America, the church now draws almost exclusively on home-grown members to lead missions, congregations and regions.
The incoming Europe Area Presidency will comprise a German, a Frenchman and a Portuguese member. "That is definitely a good thing," Carter says. "It will depend on them to blend in their European identity with the American values they represent and take Mormonism further in Europe."
Since more than a third of the church's members joined after 1995, many know little or nothing about teachings about Eden and the U.S. Constitution more prevalent in the 19th century.
That's good, says Southern California sociologist Armand Mauss. Such Americanisms "have nothing to do with coming unto Christ or with the covenants made as part of the proffered plan of happiness for all of God's people."
For Mormonism to shed some of its association with America, observers say, it must add new dimensions to the story of a people who triumphed over adversity by crossing the United States in covered wagons.
And it will take more than imitation handcarts to make Latter-day Saints in other places feel part of that history. They need their own pioneer yarns about suffering and sacrifice for the faith, says BYU sociologist Marie Cornwall. Such collective tales enrich the local experience and connect them to Mormons everywhere.
This may be happening in places such as New Zealand, where Maori Mormons built the temple with their own hands as "labor missionaries." Or in Hawaii, Mexico and Canada.
But it isn't happening in Italy, says Massimo Introvigne, a Catholic who studies new religious movements.
"There is no 'Italianization' of the Mormon experience nor an emphasis on the Italian pioneers," Introvigne says. "Studies on the first Italians who converted are known only to scholars, and, at any rate, they emigrated to Utah. Famous members (such as author Stephenie Meyer or football legend Steve Young) are American. There are no famous Italian members."
Creating a common story and culture may be what the late President Gordon B. Hinckley had in mind when he created "cultural celebrations" before temple dedications. Young people from all over the region swarm to a stadium to dance, sing and re-enact tales of their local culture.
In March 2007, an exhausted Hinckley, recently emerging from chemotherapy, addressed an exuberant crowd in Santiago, Chile. Teens chanted his name as they waved white hankies toward their prophet.
After he left the arena, though, they took up a new chant: "Chi-le, Chi-le, Chi-le." They then began to pay homage to their country's various regions and ethnicities. That, Cornwall says, is the beginning of their own Mormon identity, far away from the mountains of Utah.
American sights and sounds Some Americanisms die hard.
Take music, for example. LDS congregations favor instruments such as the piano and violin, while forbidding trumpets, trombones and drums. That leaves believers in Africa without their preferred sacred sounds.
With its all-male hierarchy, the church has developed a vast bureaucracy, and those who rise to the top typically are ones who most closely resemble their American counterparts. Unlike the Jehovah's Witnesses, who use homegrown members in their outreach, most Mormon missionaries come into an area from outside, usually from the United States.
And a seemingly American obsession with white shirt and tie and beardless faces continues in LDS wards - even where it is unusual in the local culture.
"Certainly high-ranking Mormon leaders will always wear a white shirt," Head says. "I've seen some wards on the Continent where the shirts change color. But there's always a tie."
Even the American calendar trumps others. As a British missionary serving in Austria, Head phoned home on the American Mother's Day, not on its parallel U.K. holiday.
"I think this upset my mother."

As we briefly stated earlier, the plain and precious truths presented here have a firm foundation of not only a deep, clear understanding of the scriptures, but a profound Near Death Experience (NDE) experienced at the pure age of 10. There is precedence of a similar “calling” given to Mormon, a great ancient American Prophet and compiler of the Golden Plates/Book of Mormon. He was also called by the Lord at the age of 10. This NDE was preceded by 3 dreams experienced and recorded in personal history journals written by his Mother and Father. He was taught in Heaven for 3 days while his body was in a coma after being accidentally shot and miraculously being healed. While he was in the St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, the Prophet David O. McKay and all of the Apostles prayed for this young boy. There were concerned for the father, who brought in billions of dollars as head geologist for the church would be arrested for negligent homicide. All of these LDS Leaders received an impactful spiritual witness (probably the first in their lives), that this young boy had an important mission for the Lord.
This is why throughout his life, there was an open-door policy with these brethren. It was in the SLC temple with Howard W. Hunter as his escort before going on a mission that this pure man of God refused to take the satanic blood oath or to consecrate everything to the church instead of to the Lord. Permission was given to bypass these two satanic requirements by Howard W. Hunter and David O. McKay. David O. McKay was told to repent as well as all the other individuals especially Hinckley "whose words are unto God but whose hearts are far from Him". It was Howard W. Hunter that performed his wedding in the SLC temple. He was given the Spencer W. Kimball Scholarship award without applying for it. He was called by a repenting Ezra Taft Benson to be a BYU Bishop. After President Benson declared "We are a condemned church" he was physically silenced because of the serious "satanic" blood oath of loyalty to the brethren and not to God that Howard W. Hunter personally revealed is taken when men are called as Apostles. He was told in Heaven that these men were not of God but were moneychangers, a type and shadow today of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
The teachings in Heaven included profound knowledge of the earth, the problems, the solutions, the Millennium, the importance of the true equality of women and the reason for their suppression because of Lucifer. He was also shown in detail the Cities of Commerce which are based on an Honor Code for the pure in heart; those who are willing to be taught plain and precious truths and are willing to leave behind their own agendas and status quo.
This is the fulfillment of "two in the field and one will be taken". The so-called “Rapture” is men’s embellishment. We live here –with Christ – learning truths during the Millennium! Read all of the ancient Gospels not included in the Bible by controlling men and you have the key information to determine with spiritual insights that Mary was the first woman Apostle and wife of Jesus. Marriage is a holy institution. Jesus gave us the example of Baptism by Immersion why not Marriage? The truth makes sense. Jesus taught in parables so that you could determine truth upon the rock of the gospel - personal revelation based upon your willingness to be taught new truths (as a child), research, reflection and prayer. In the Gnostic Christian organization (influenced by Christ), a husband and wife as ONE in God, presided over the members of the congregation, each holding the priesthood equally and both male and female taught the congregation. No more "boys club" separating men and women, taking the man out of the home and submitting the woman to being less than the man before God. No more late night interviews between Bishops (who have sometimes strayed) and women. The mistranslations, embellishments, deletions of controlling men to undermine women will be corrected during the Millennium.
The 24 Apostles spoken of in Revelations in the Millennium will be 12 women and 12 men who are actual witnesses of Christ to preach repentance! They will teach correct principal to the people and let them govern themselves. These individuals will have nothing to do with finances - they will not be moneychangers! Women are excellent communicators of Truth and examples of living by the Spirit who are equal to men in the eyes of God! Now back to our key concerns! The ancient records as compiled by Mormon, an ancient pure prophet of God contain key information of the "other sheep" who knew of Jesus and were taught by him. These records and others are witnesses of the Bible.
How important is God, truth and freedom to you or do you place a greater value on tradition and status quo? Joseph had his first affair even before he told Emma about polygamy - which, of course, she hated and did not believe in as it diminishes all women, did not repent daily (as we all need to) and that he would loose his spiritual gifts and become as other men if he did anything more than what he was commanded to do - restore the plain and precious truths of the Book of Mormon.
The Bible, Book of Mormon and even the movie "The Passion" teach that all religious leaders CAN unrighteously mislead the people because of their great control and desire for power. Roger Williams (founder of the first American Baptist Church in 1639 after being banished from Massachusetts because of their allegiance to British Rule) eventually became a "seeker" - leaving organized religion - because he had to follow his heart rather than the "rules". He "outrageously" believed the American Indians should be paid for their land.

But Christ loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and expressed disapproval. The Original Book of Mormon (can be found on the internet) exposes significant changes made to the 2nd edition of the Book of Mormon, altered by the early leaders, being used by the LDS Church today. The plain and precious truth that Jesus Christ is the Eternal Father was altered with the second printing of the Book of Mormon. Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball (33rd degree Masons- HCK autobio, pg 11, etc) infiltrated the church and influenced the alteration of the pure Book of Mormon, brought the Masonic/satanic blood oath rituals (Moses 5:29) to the Nauvoo Temple. They also helped to bring in polygamy and TOOK AWAY the priesthood from the women and the blacks. Joseph Smith bears responsibility/liability as well. The priesthood is for everyone who has a pure heart. God is NOT racist nor values women less than men. Polygamy has ALWAYS been an abomination to God (Jacob 2: 23-24 & 3) AND was the SOLE reason for the destruction of the Nephites. (Some Nephites were prompted earlier by the Spirit and left with Hagoth on ships for the "Islands of the Seas.")
In the Original Book of Mormon we can read hundreds of examples such as "Mary, mother of God" and "Jesus, yea the Eternal Father", etc. 1 Nephi 13:40 "And the Angel spake unto me, saying: these last records (Book of Mormon), which thou hast seen among the Gentiles (members of the church), shall establish the truth of the first (the Bible), which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them (the Bible AND the Book of Mormon); and shall make known to all kindred’s, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father (Original Book of Mormon version), and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved."
The plain and precious truths of the Book of Mormon were taken out by Masonic "learned men" who were a part of the "blood oath" secret combinations as warned of in the Book of Mormon. The Masonic blood oath secret covenant is still operating today with religion, government, commerce and judicial corruption being exposed with truth. Many examples are given of latter-day prophecies, types and shadows and how they are being fulfilled today.
The greatest gift to be given to this world is free agency and truth. Men throughout the ages have altered the pure and simple words of truth to take away our free agency. Women have allowed it. It is now time to restore truth which was given to the earth in a pure form, but then altered by men with evil intent. The Original Book of Mormon is a pure history recorded by men who did counsel with the Lord. This history records the good and bad choices of the ancient civilizations who inhabited the Americas. It is important to read the Original Book of Mormon for an understanding of the Lord’s truth and to learn from the Ancient Americans’ mistakes and also from their triumphs. There are some misspelled words, grammatical errors, etc. from the translation/scribe process. This book is pure, not perfect and the Lord mentions how he feels about those who feel perfection is more important that purity.
During a three-day Near Death Experience, one individual was called by the Lord to restore this Original Book of Mormon to the Latter-day Saints to wake them up to the apostasy and condemnation of the Church and why it is necessary to clean up the Lord’s House as prophesied. It is not our intent to "throw the baby out with the bath water" but to restore the truth of the identity of Jesus Christ as God. The truth of the First Vision of Joseph Smith needs to be restored, as well, to the original version which Joseph Smith wrote with his own hand declaring that the Lord appeared to him; one personage not two as the later versions stated. Joseph Smith also originally gave the priesthood to women and to blacks. This equality of all in the eyes of God also needs to be restored. Women are equal in worth to men - women do not want to be "saved" by men which diminish free agency but to be responsible for their own progression and have the inherent right to communicate with the Lord themselves. In other ancient scriptures the husband and the wife acted as ONE and were called to be a "Bishop" over the "ward" with the wife over the women and the husband over the men and counseling with each other.
The Book of Mormon was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation. Their words were quoted and abridged by a prophet-historian named Mormon around 350 A.D. The record gives an account of two great civilizations. One came from Jerusalem in 600 B.C. and afterward separated into two nations, known as the Nephites and the Lamanites. The other came much earlier when the Lord confounded the tongues at the Tower of Babel. This group is known as the Jaredites. After thousands of years, all were destroyed except the Lamanites who were the principal ancestors of the American Indians and those Nephites who were blessed and followed inspiration and left by ship to settle and populate in other lands (Isles of the Sea) prior to the destruction of the Nephites at the time of Mormon.
Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: "I told the brethren that the (Original) Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book." The Book of Mormon is a pure and simple history with tremendous examples to learn from. When the people lived righteously, they were blessed; when they put money or power (government, commerce, religion and traditions) before God who is Jesus Christ the people died spiritually. It is the same today.
After Mormon completed his writings, he delivered the account to his son Moroni, who added a few words of his own and hid up the plates in the hill Cumorah. On September 21, 1823, the same Moroni, then a glorified, resurrected being, appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith and taught him about his responsibility to translate this ancient record.
It took four years of Joseph Smith repenting, being taught by Moroni and finally understanding who it was that Heaven required him to have with him before the plates would be delivered to Joseph. The person Heaven required to be there with Joseph before he would be given the plates was Emma Hale representing the equality of men and women in the eyes of God. Joseph Smith being given the authority by God, gave the priesthood to women and to blacks. These rights were unrighteously dissolved by Brigham Young, a high degree mason, and other masons (secret combinations, as warned of in the Book of Mormon). The Lord would have us be pure and open as a child (not perfect).
A good example is the original open ceremony of the Kirkland Temple validated by Heaven with Spiritual manifestations to everyone - members and non-members. Jesus taught us to only say "yea or nay" in all of our dealings and to never swear any secret/blood oaths as initiated in the Nauvoo Temple. The Lord is about truth not secrets. It’s wiser to consecrate everything unto the Lord not to any man or church of this earth who would then be justified in that power to take advantage and control requiring "blind obedience" which violates our free agency.
Joseph Smith warned us about blind obedience in the Millennial Star #14 #38, Pages 593-595 "We have heard men who hold the priesthood remark that they would do anything they were told to do by those who preside over them (even) if they knew it was wrong; but such obedience as this is worse than folly to us; it is slavery in the extreme; and the man who would thus degrade himself, should not claim a rank among intelligent beings...A man of God would despise the idea. Others in the extreme exercise of their almighty authority have taught that such obedience was necessary and that no matter what the saints were told to do by their presidents, they should do it without any questions. When Elders of Israel will so far indulge in these extreme notions of obedience as to teach them to the people, it is generally because they have it in their hearts to do wrong themselves."
Joseph Smith after receiving the plates from Angel Moroni then translated them by the gift and power of God. This record is now a witness that Jesus Christ is the living God and that all may come unto him. The Lord is no respecter of persons nor lineage and anyone may be called of him. An example of this is Samuel the Lamanite called by the Lord as (written about in the Book of Mormon) who was called to cry repentance to the Nephites. Samuel, a Lamanites proves that anyone can repent and come unto God. The Lord earlier had cursed the Lamanites because of their hard hearts. They at times repented and in the end most of the Nephites became abominable (practiced polygamy) and were destroyed by the Lamanites.
The Book of Mormon gives many examples of the corruption of leaders, lawyers, judges, and kings. One very wicked King Noah was the "leader of the church" with 12 high priests. This King flattered the people, built many great and spacious buildings and even temple(s). Three times in the book of Mosiah it warns that this would be repeated in the latter-days and is a prophetic type and shadows of events today. We are the "Gentiles" who have rejected the pure and simple truths of the ORIGINAL Book of Mormon that Jesus is God.
We pray, of course, to God the Eternal Father in the name of Christ as this was the name of the Lord when He loved us so much that He came to this earth as a man. (Mosiah 15:1-5) Those who ask in faith will gain a testimony of the original Book of Mormon’s truth and divinity by the power of the Spirit of God.
After reading and pondering the pure and simple truths of the Original Book of Mormon it’s not hard to comprehend that Joseph Smith was pure-hearted WHEN he repented and did receive divine answers and translated from ancient records this pure history and second witness that Jesus is God, but he sadly failed to repent and did fall just like David and Solomon. King David before he died having repented told his son Solomon to remember that each individual can have talk with God so go with your pure heart rather believe in any man or woman (including “prophets.”)
The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after his resurrection. There was darkness for three days all over the world with dreadful destruction of the earth. After the third day the Savior ascended from the Heavens in Great Power and Glory appearing to those parts of the world that were worthy of the Savior's Ascension as it had been foretold. THIS WAS THE PROPHESIED SECOND COMING! Jesus Christ taught, blessed and administered to the Nephites and their children, fulfilling all Old Testament prophesies of His Second Coming. Today, the Lord comes to the pure in heart as a “Thief in the Night.”
As in Jerusalem with 5,000 being raised from the dead, the dead in the Americas were raised as well! Jesus prophetically foretold that he would rise up the "Temple" in three days and ascend from the clouds in great power and great glory. This happened! Yet, men being blinded by their own interpretations of the scriptures are just as unaware of the truth as the Sadducees and Pharisees regarding the Savior. In the Americas there was peace in the land for 200 years because of the spiritual impact and power of this event. Much was so incredible that it could not be written. This event happened all over the world to those who were worthy of it as recorded in the Bible and other ancient scriptures. Today, we should be looking for the Savior to come as a Thief in the night. "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God" is a promise for everyone if they can overcome themselves and the world.
In addition to Joseph Smith, the Lord provided for eleven others to see the gold plates for themselves and to be special witnesses of the truth and divinity of the Book of Mormon. Their written testimonies are included herewith as "The Testimony of Three Witnesses" and "The Testimony of Eight Witnesses." Many of these Apostles left the church because of abominable practices by unrepentant leaders which brought the church into condemnation by the Lord (D&C 124) such as polygamy (Jacob 2:23-24), masonry with it's blood oath (Moses 5:29) still implied in the temples today, and the alteration to the Book of Mormon (1Nephi 13:40), but they NEVER denied their testimony of the Book of Mormon.
The Lord loves purity not perfection. The Lord established his position regarding the spelling and grammatical errors of the Original Book of Mormon. (Ether 12:23-26) "And I said unto him, Lord, the Gentiles will mock at these things, because of our weakness in writing: ... for thou hast made all this people that they could speak much, because of the Holy Ghost which thou has given them;...when we write, we behold our weakness and stumble because of the placing of our words; and I fear lest the Gentiles shall mock at our words. And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying fools mock but they shall mourn..." The Lord loves the purity of the Original Book of Mormon - He does not care that there are grammatical and spelling errors just as he loves the children in their purity. It is only the learned/natural men; "enemies" to God who are critical "fools".
In 1632, John Lathrop gave up his vast wealth and social status as a Deacon of the Church of England to protest the political control of religious leaders. He and his followers were imprisoned in England because of their defiance. When John's wife died, his son bribed a guard and John and his congregation managed to escape to America. John Lathrop protested the religious control of politics, judicial enforcement and economics. What can we learn from men who gave up everything to stand up for truth against the control of corrupt religious leaders?
Today, that same unrighteous control exists. John Lathrop was one of the founders of the Baptist/Christian Church in America.
God is about truth and full-disclosure, getting back to the pure and spiritual truths, equality for women in the priesthood as Disciples of Christ, reversing the historic suppression of women and truth that Jesus is God, the Eternal Father!

LDS Church's Beneficial Financial Group to stop selling insurance
Beneficial Financial Group, a subsidiary of LDS Church-owned Deseret Management Corp., will stop selling life insurance and annuities in October because the company has decided it is too small to compete effectively.
Beneficial will eliminate the jobs of 150 employees, about 70 percent of its work force of 214 home office and field representatives, the company said today.
"Following an extensive and careful review, we concluded that for a relatively small insurance company like Beneficial, the inherent risks outweigh the limited expected returns," Mark Hinckley Willes, CEO of Deseret Management, said in a statement.
The company, which has assets of $3.4 billion, will discontinue issuing new policies Oct. 31.
The decision will not affect the policies of current policyholders, Willes said.
"Beneficial is and will remain well-capitalized and fully able to meet its obligations to current policyholders," Willes said.
Willes also cited the meltdown of financial markets as a reason for discontinuing its life insurance and annuity business.
Beneficial Financial Group cuts 150 of its 214 Utah jobs
SALT LAKE CITY June 16, 2009 - Beneficial Financial Group, one of Utah's oldest insurance and annuity companies, announced Tuesday that it will cut about 150 jobs from its 214-person Utah work force and discontinue writing new policies.
Parent company Deseret Management Corp. said in a news release that the reason for the decision to pull out of the insurance business, and the resulting job cuts, was Beneficial's "relatively small size putting it at a competitive disadvantage compared to larger insurers." Beneficial's employees were told of the decision Tuesday morning.
"Beneficial is and will remain well capitalized and fully able to meet its obligations to current policyholders," said Mark Hinckley Willes, Deseret Management's new 2009 president and chief executive officer. "However, like virtually all life insurers, Beneficial has been impacted by the financial-market meltdown.
"When you combine our lack of scale with the economic impact of the market meltdown, it becomes clear that the limited economic opportunity does not justify the risk of potential future losses."
Kent Cannon, Beneficial's chief executive officer, told the Deseret News that the company would continue to serve its existing policyholders and "do right by our employees and agents, many of whom have ties with Beneficial going back generations."
"This is clearly a very difficult thing to deal with," he said. "The decision to downsize was not easy, and we are committed to a responsible and orderly process."
Founded in 1905 to help protect widows and orphans, Beneficial is the oldest life-insurance company headquartered in the Intermountain West, according to the company's Web site.
Willes told the Deseret News that the company would stop accepting applications for new policies Aug. 31.
He said Beneficial has seen its investment portfolio decline significantly due to its exposure to mortgage-backed and other structured securities, resulting in losses of $600 million over the past two years. Deseret Management had to infuse $594 million into Beneficial to make up the deficit, but at no time did it use funds provided by LDS tithes, Willes noted.
Deseret Management is a for-profit operating company owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The corporation oversees Beneficial Financial Group, media company Bonneville International Corp., Deseret Book Co., Deseret News Publishing Co., Hawaii Reserves Inc., Temple Square Hospitality Corp. and Zions Securities Corp.
Willes said the Beneficial employees who are being laid off will receive generous severance packages, including outplacement assistance for up to six months, "so that you have a real chance at landing on your feet with a new job."
In addition to Beneficial's 214 Utah employees, the company has 155 Utah field agents among 478 total nationwide, according to Deseret Management spokesman Kent Jarrell.
Willes said Deseret Management is working with "some major (insurance) carriers to help transition our field force to them," so that the agents could sell other firms' insurance. Details of an agreement could be released by the end of the month.
Willes said that while the decision to downsize holdings in the insurance business was motivated in part by the current economic climate, the remaining Deseret Management businesses are not affected, and no cuts are planned in any other affiliated entities.
"This is a decision that is … very much a life-insurance company issue," Willes said. "It has nothing to do with Deseret News or Bonneville or others who are in completely different industries."
